Mission Statement
The primary objective of the organizational leadership and supervision program is the education and development of graduates who are career-ready for leadership roles in business, industry, and service agencies.
About the Program
The program is a highly individualized, practical, people-oriented approach to the practice of supervision. It provides a long-term educational emphasis on real-world work concepts and principles of enlightened leadership, rather than short-term supervisory approach. The organizational leadership and supervision program is offered at the West Lafayette campus and at several Statewide Technology sites.
Seventy-five percent of the program is composed of required courses that provide the student with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform well in their first work-related professional position. The other twenty-five percent consists of technical electives, allowing the student to specialize in a specific area such as operations, quality control, or human relations.
Graduates are employed in various leadership and managerial positions in areas such as supervision, production control, quality control, process engineering, customer service, training and development, human resource management, technical sales, general management, and the military service.
Students are encouraged to take a planned program of technical skill courses that will provide a meaningful background for their future careers as well as permit them to function effectively in tomorrow's high technology society. In addition to the regular undergraduate four-year program, a student may choose to gain practical work experience by participating in the summer intern or cooperative education program.
There are three programs available: Bachelor of Science degree, Associate of Science degree, and the Organizational Leadership Certificate. The Bachelor of Science is a four year degree program. The Associate of Science degree program and the Organizational Leadership Certificate are designed to meet the needs of people who wish to improve themselves educationally and professionally through the development of basic supervisory skills. The Associate of Science degree and the Organizational Leadership Certificate programs are designed for those who are employed full time and wish to pursue their education on a part-time basis. People who are already in supervisory positions as well as those who want to equip themselves for upward mobility into supervisory levels are encouraged to choose from these programs. Courses taken in these two programs count towards the Bachelor of Science degree.
