Biography

Areas of expertise include: HVAC, building automation and renewable energy systems.

Professor Hutzel is pursuing a program of applied research to help meet the growing demand for sustainable energy sources while also considering complex environmental issues like global warming and ozone depletion.  He is particularly interested in using building automation systems to help maintain a balance between energy efficiency and human comfort in modern commercial buildings.  He is also investigating solar energy (both photovoltaic and solar heating) as a supplement to traditional fossil fuel energy sources.
