The P.A.I.D. Constitution
- ARTICLE I
Name
Section I. Name:
The name of this organization shall be known as the Professional Association for
Industrial Distribution (hereinafter referred to as P.A.I.D.).
- ARTICLE II
Purpose and Goals
Section I. Purpose:
The purpose shall be to represent the students of Industrial Distribution, provide
leadership opportunities for students, and coordinate services and activities of
interest to the society members and faculty. The goal is to provide career awareness
that will promote and develop a better understanding of Industrial Distribution
and it's relationship among Industrial Distribution students, former students,
faculty, and Industrial community representatives.
- ARTICLE III
Membership
Section I. Regular and Associate Membership
Regular Membership is open to all current Purdue University students with
an interest in Industrial Distribution and with payment of dues.
Associate Membership may be granted to individuals who are not students of
Industrial Distribution (i.e.: alumni, faculty, and friends of Industrial
Distribution) by nomination by any regular society member, and will be accepted
upon approval by two-thirds (2/3) vote of quorum and payment of dues. Adjunct
members do not have the ability to vote or hold office. Membership and
participation are free from discrimination based on race, religion, color, sex,
age, national origin or ancestry, marital status, parental status, sexual
orientation, disability, or status as a disabled or Vietnam-era veteran.
Section II. Participation:
All members and officers must attend at least two-thirds (2/3) of the business
meetings per year to be considered a member in good standing. In the case of
December graduation, students must attend at least two-thirds (2/3) of the business
meetings of the Fall semester to be considered a member in good standing
Section III. Dues:
Dues shall not exceed $25.00 per year and shall be paid before
membership privileges will be granted. Dues for a single semester shall be prorated
at a rate set by the officers of the organization.
Section IV. Advisors:
At least one person will have the responsibility to this organization as advisor.
This person will be appointed by the present advisor and approved by the student
organization with a two-thirds (2/3) vote of a quorum. This advisor will be an
adjunct member of the organization, with all rights and privileges therein. This
person will be someone from the faculty of the Industrial Technology department who
has an active interest in assisting Industrial Distribution students. The length of
term for the advisor shall be at least two (2) years and may continue to hold office
as long as they desire and area approved by student vote as recorded above in this
paragraph.
Responsibilities of the advisor(s) involve the following: Oversee the normal
operations of this organization and assist where needed; help coordinate activities
that require faculty approval; be in attendance, as an observer, of meetings and
events sponsored by the organization or where the organization is represented;
oversee the transition of records and responsibilities between new and existing
officers; give guidance and be an active participant to the success of
P.A.I.D., it's officers, and it's members.
- ARTICLE IV
Officers
Section I. Requirements of Officers:
Each candidate for service as an officer of this society must meet the following
criteria:
- Be a Regular Member of P.A.I.D. (Article III, Section I.).
- Have at least a 2.5 overall GPA at the time of their election or appointment and
during the term of office.
- Be in good standing with the University and the organization, and be enrolled in
at least 12 credit hours in a regular semester during the term of office.
Exceptions will be considered for seniors enrolled in fewer than 12 credit
hours.
- Fulfill general duties as specified under article IV, Section III.
- Be able to serve office for 1 year.
- Be subject to removal of office by two-thirds (2/3) vote of all officers should
the student fail to maintain the requirements prescribed in (A), (B), (C),
(D), or (E) above.

- Section II. Offices:
The following offices shall be elected by the organization: President,
Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Any other offices deemed
necessary (i.e.: Programs Director, Public Relations Officer, Historian, or Resume
Review Chairperson, Website Supervisor, etc.) shall be filled through presidential
appointment. An officer, elected or appointed, may hold only one office in
P.A.I.D. during any given term.
Section III. General Duties:
All elected officers shall be responsible for upholding the constitution and
fulfilling all assigned duties of their specific office.
Section IV. Specific Duties:
President - Shall preside over all meetings; be empowered to delegate
committees and appoint committee chairpersons; act as the official P.A.I.D.
representative at authorized university activities in addition to P.A.I.D.
activities and services; be responsible to the sponsor for all actions
taken by the organization; approve proposals by appointed officers after
conference with elected officers; be fully cognizant of the constitution and the
organization and uphold it's ideals to the highest standards; assist in the
posting of announcements related to the organization (i.e.: meetings flyers,
emails, etc.).
Vice President - Shall assist president and preside over meetings in the
absence of the president; act as chairman of the senior banquet committee; be
prepared at all times to fill the office of president; oversee committee chairs
and fulfill any other duties designated by the president; assist in the posting
of announcements related to the organization (i.e.:meeting flyers, emails, etc.).
Secretary - Shall prepare meeting agenda in coordination with all elected
officers; record minutes and check attendance at all business meetings; be
responsible for maintaining all information pertaining to the activities and
services of this society during the term; prepare the P.A.I.D. directory; keep a
complete and updated record of membership; prepare official ballots for election
and turn in records of the election to the Purdue University business office
within one (1) week of the elections; maintain all bulletin boards and posters
related to the organization; created and assist in the posting of announcements
related to the organization (i.e.: meeting flyers, emails, etc.).
Treasurer - Shall collect dues, pay bills in a timely manner, oversee other
monetary transaction including office funds, social activities, and fund raisers;
prepare an annual budget; keep and maintain accounts; follow regulations set forth
by Article VI Section I and Section II of this constitution; make expenditures in
a manner approved by the Business Office for Student Organizations; and assist in
the posting of announcements related to the organization (i.e.: meeting flyers,
emails, etc.).
Section V. Election Process and Term of Office:
Persons seeking office will announce their candidacy during the February meeting.
The candidates shall be expected to "run" for their offices through the
mechanism of campaign speeches and political advertisements, but all such
activities must be in accordance with all university rules and regulations.
Elections shall be held by secret ballot. Current officers and selected
non-candidates will man a ballot table for voting. No candidate may man or
campaign at the ballot table. Transition between current officers and newly
elected officers will take place at the final Spring meeting of P.A.I.D. The term
of all offices shall be one year.
Section VI. Vacancy of Position:
Refer to Article IV, Section I; Any vacancy will be filled immediately by
presidential appointment. Vacancy of the office of President and Vice President,
at the same time, will result in a new election.
- ARTICLE V
Meetings
Section I. Business Meetings:
Regular meetings of P.A.I.D. will be held at the discretion of the officers
and/or advisor, at least once a month during the Fall and Spring semesters.
In the case of legal holiday or conflict, the meeting may be rescheduled as
deemed necessary by the executive officers of the society. Meetings will be held
at a location and time of day delegated by the President, in agreement with the
officers and faculty advisor of the society. Meetings will follow a prepared
agenda.
Section II. Quorum Requirements:
A quorum of 30% of the total regular membership must be present to conduct official
business.
- ARTICLE VI
Finances
Section I. Dues:
Dues shall be reevaluated annually and are required of all members.
Section II. Monies:
All monies belonging to this organization shall be
deposited and disbursed through a bank account established for this organization.
All funds must be deposited within 24 hours after collection. The advisor to this
organization must approve and sign expenditures before payment.
- ARTICLE VII
Amendments and Revisions
Section I. Amendments:
This constitution may be amended at any time by a
two-thirds (2/3) vote of a quorum, subject to the approval of the Director of
Student Activities. All amendments to the constitution and bylaws are subject to
the approval of the Office of the Dean of Students.
Section II. Bylaws:
Bylaws of this organization may be amended at any time
through a motion made by any regular member and passed by a two-thirds (2/3)
vote of all officers of this organization.
Section III. Revisions:
This document must be reviewed every two (2) years and resubmitted to the Student
Activities Office.
