1970 - 1971 instructor

Industrial, Business and Government Experience

Unless specified otherwise all positions were full time, summer (12 week) appointments.

1993 - 94 Design Engineer Utility Test Equipment W. Lafayette,IN

Design, prototype, program, and automate a watt-hour meter calibration station to adjust light load and the power factor correction tab. Switching power supply design, amplifier integration, PLC selection and programming, cascaded loop tuning and motor interfacing were all part of the project. The second year consisted of integration into a full assembly line and reduction of variation.

1990 Instrumentation Engineer Radian Research Lafayette, IN

Design and testing of the analog portion of a frequency synthesizer for a power system calibration standard. Accuracy of 10 parts per million was obtained.

1989 Product Reliability Engineer Delco Electronics Kokomo, IN

Design and prototyping of an automated test system for the supervision of acceptance testing of automotive electronic modules. This required the design of a microprocessor based (68HC11) load board to directly interface with and evaluate each unit under test, and to serve as a communication concentrator between each unit under test and a personal computer. Also the RS-485 communications interface hardware and software for the intelligent load boards and the PC were designed.

1988 Automated Test Engineer Ash Medical Systems W. Lafayette, IN

Design, fabricate, test, and program an automated test system to provide functional tests of a variety of electronic boards used in an artificial kidney. Boards to be tested included high resolution analog input, digital I/O, 8051 microprocessor, relay and power distribution, and timers and counters. The designed system was based around a personal computer, an IEEE-488 interface to a digital multimeter, frequency synthesizer, counter, and microprocessor tester, and parallel input and output to DACs, and a relay switching array.

1987 Researcher Thermal Property Research Lab Purdue

Design, fabricate and test the sensor and instrumentation of a laser stimulated thermal diffusion automated test system. Also, redesign the analog control for a 150Amp oven.

1986 Design Engineer Ash Medical Systems W. Lafayette, IN

Investigate optical measurement of blood flow rate, and design the sensor and signal conditioning to determine that flow rate, as well as to detect bubbles and particles in the blood.

1984 - 85 Electronic Design Engineer Wolverine Industrial W. Lafayette, IN

Design the sensors and instrumentation to control the automated torquing of bolts on a truck transmission during assembly.

1982 Researcher Thermal Property Research Lab Purdue

Design or modify, fabricate, test, and install several instrumentation interfaces between a PDP 11 minicomputer, a thermocouple array, a laser firing system, a cryogenic temperature controller, a LVDT position sensor, and a data communications controller.

1979 - 81 Instrumentation Engineer TRW Ross Gear Lafayette, IN

Design, fabricate, test, install and train operators on automated test equipment to perform a variety of engineering design tests on hydraulic steering gears, and pumps. Sensors, analog electronics, data converters, digital interfaces, valve and dynamometer interfaces and data transmission circuitry were designed. Software for both a minicomputer and a personal computer was written to log data, to provide control over key hydraulic parameters, and to compile the resulting engineering report.
