CIT Industrial Advisory Board (IAB)

Mission Statement

The mission of the Computer and Information Technology Department (CIT) Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) is to establish an enduring partnership between faculty, students, and industry to achieve a position of academic excellence and national prominence in information technology (IT).

Objectives

The primary objectives of the CIT-IAB are to actively assist the CIT department by:

  1. Providing input regarding the department's missions, goals, and programs
  2. Marketing the department to students, parents, industry, government, and other stakeholders
  3. Advising faculty on grantsmanship, research collaboration and entrepreneurial endeavors
  4. Providing leadership on fundraising projects
  5. Assisting the department in accreditation activities
  6. Recommending an approach to improve faculty and student recruitment
  7. Designing and maintaining world-class facilities

To accomplish the objectives, the CIT-IAB will meet at least two times annually. Usually, the meetings will be held on the Purdue West Lafayette campus. The meeting agendas will be provided at least one month in advance and will reflect the most critical needs of the department.

Membership

The CIT-IAB will consist of all current CIT faculty, one undergraduate student, one graduate student, CPT distinguished alumni, and a diverse mix of people from industry and government. The industry/governmental members will be by invitation from the Department Head or designee. These members will serve a three-year term with no term limits for membership.

The CIT-IAB will be chaired by the Department Head or designee. The responsibilities of the chair include:

  • Schedule and coordinate semi-annual meetings
  • Prepare meeting agendas with input from members and distribute to members in a timely fashion
  • Provide leadership in helping the Board achieve its goals and objectives
  • Recruit new members, with input from the Board, to ensure that all areas are represented
  • Invite ex-officio members to provide input to help the Board make informed decisions
