CIMT 100 Introduction to CIM Technology
Class 1, cr. 1.
Manufacturing practices and the various issues related to the application
of computer integrated manufacturing will be explored. Key areas of discussion
will include the definition of CIM, the CIMT plan of study, and industrial
case studies related to CIM implementation.

CIMT 243 Automated Manufacturing I
Class 2, lab. 2, cr. 3. Prerequisite: EET 214 and CPT 175.
Examination of how industrial controls, programmable logic controllers
(PLCs), and industrial robots function in an automated manufacturing environment.
Students learn the theory of operation, how to program, and the practical
application of PLCs and electric robots. Introductory level integration
topics and commonly used industrial control devices are also
addressed.
CIMT 244 Automated Manufacturing II
Class 2, lab. 2, cr. 3. Prerequisite: MET 242.
Shop floor components of computer-integrated manufacturing are introduced.
Emphasis is focused on current applications and programming practices of
various computer automated manufacturing processes and technologies. Topics
include: CAD/CAM integration, computer-assisted numerical control programming,
computer-assisted quality control, and automatic identification.
CIMT 246 Manufacturing Operations and
Planning Systems
Class 2, lab. 2, cr. 3.
An introduction to the operation of a manufacturing company will be
presented. Focus topics include: the principles of inventory and production
control, manufacturing planning, operations management, and other related
topics. Quantitative methods, software applications, and financial implications
of operations decisions will be introduced.
CIMT 299 Computer Integrated Manufacturing
Technology
Class 0-3, lab. 2-6, cr. 1-6.
Hours and subject matter to be arranged by instructor and approved
by the CIMT curriculum committee. Primarily for third- and fourth-semester
students with special interests.

CIMT 311 Computer-Aided Design in Manufacturing
Class 2, lab. 2, cr. 3. Prerequisite: CIMT 244.
Three-dimensional computer-aided design models are approached as databases
for manufacturing. Visualization, data infrastructure, and management of
CAD systems in manufacturing environments are presented. In addition, emerging
CAD technologies are discussed.
CIMT 342 Advanced Manufacturing Processes
and Practices
Class 2, lab. 2, cr. 3. Prerequisite: MET 242 and CIMT 246 or IET 104.
This course will address advanced manufacturing processes and practices.
Topics include: the impact of product manufacturability upon manufacturing
operations, concurrent engineering, rapid prototyping, non-traditional
manufacturing processes, and design specifications for manufacturing tooling
and machinery.
CIMT 374 Manufacturing Integration I
Class 2, lab. 2, cr. 3. Prerequisite: EET 233, CPT 305 and 175, CIMT
243.
The fundamentals of data communications and local area networks are
taught in order to show students how to integrate modern manufacturing
systems. Emphasis is on the various levels of
communications between shop floor computers, PLCs, robots, and automatic
identification equipment. Database technology is used as an integration
tool. This course prepares students for the CIMT capstone course.

CIMT 400 Computer Integrated Manufacturing
Class 2, lab. 2, cr. 3. Credit not given with MET 242 or CIMT 243.
This course will study the technology associated with computer integrated
manufacturing (CIM). Conventional manufacturing technologies and methods
will be introduced, followed by computer automation and CIM. The course
will include computer-aided design (CAD), automated manufacturing processes,
integrated manufacturing processes, integrated manufacturing systems, and
other related topics.
CIMT 446 Advanced Manufacturing Operations
Class 2, lab. 2, cr. 3. Prerequisite: CIMT 246 and CPT 305.
Application and implementation of formal control systems for production
and inventory control, advanced manufacturing planning, operations management,
and related topics. Topics will include advanced software applications,
and the integration of planning and control systems for manufacturing.
CIMT 448 Integrated Materials-Handling
and Facilities Planning
Class 2, lab. 2, cr. 3. Prerequisite: CIMT 243 and 244.
Integrated material handling systems and a systematic approach to facilities
planning are introduced. Course topics will include automatic identification,
common material handling equipment used in manufacturing, and simulation
of material flows.
CIMT 451 Manufacturing Quality Control
(MET 451) Class 3, cr. 3, or class 2, lab. 2, cr. 3. Prerequisite:
STAT 301T. (Credit will not be granted for both MET 451 and CIMT 451.)
Quality control practices used in manufacturing industries; management,
statistical control charts, reliability, sampling plans, economics, computer
methods, and test equipment are presented and applied.
CIMT 452 Advanced Manufacturing Quality
Control
(MET 452) Class 3 or class 2, lab. 2, cr. 3. Prerequisite: MET 451
or CIMT 451. (Credit will not be granted for both MET 452 and CIMT 452.)
Advanced topics in quality control applicable to manufacturing will
be presented. The course will include quality planning and systems, experimental
design, process improvement, design quality, data analysis, and other related
topics.
CIMT 474 Manufacturing Integration II
Class 2, lab. 2, cr. 3. Prerequisite: CIMT 374.
Examination of sensors, data acquisition systems, and the fundamentals
of control system technology and theory of operation including common industrial
sensors. Interfacing of various sensors to data acquisition systems and
collection and monitoring of process data using data acquisition systems.
Open loop and closed loop control system fundamentals are addressed.
CIMT 475 Advanced Manufacturing Networks
Class 2, lab. 2,cr. 3. Prerequisite: CIMT 374.
Advanced topics in data communications and local area networks (LANs)
are examined in the context of a fully integrated modern manufacturing
facility. Topics include data communications hardware, LAN topologies,
media, medium access control, common network protocols, and internetworking.
CIMT 480 Project Management
Class 1, cr. 1. Prerequisite: senior 7 or 8 standing in CIMT program
and permission
of the instructor.
Development of student planning and reporting skills needed for a successful
capstone project. Primary course activities are focused on team formation
and the development of project plans for a team project that will be implemented
in the following semester.
CIMT 481 Integration of Manufacturing
Systems
Class 2, lab. 2, cr. 3. Prerequisite: CIMT 480, senior 8 standing in
CIMT program, and permission of the instructor.
This capstone course emphasizes the integration of manufacturing activities
into a complete system. The course brings together elements of prior courses
including: production processes, planning systems, system integration,
and manufacturing controls. Primary course activities are centered around
a semester-long team project.
CIMT 499 Computer Integrated Manufacturing
Technology
Class 0-3, lab. 2-6, cr. 1-3. Prerequisite: computer integrated manufacturing
technology major. (May be repeated for up to three credits.)
Hours and subject matter to be arranged by instructor and approved
by CIMT curriculum committee. Primarily for seventh- and eighth-semester
students with special interests.
