Integration of Manufacturing Systems
Class 2, lab. 2, cr. 3. (Prerequisites: CIMT 474 and 480)
Catalog Description: This capstone course emphasizes the integration of manufacturing activities into a complete system. The course brings together elements of prior courses including: production processes, planning systems, system integration, and manufacturing controls. Primary course activities are centered around a semester-long team project.
Course Objectives: Following completion of this course the student should be able to:
1. Successfully integrate and network various types of computer software, hardware and computer-automated manufacturing equipment into a fully functional integrated manufacturing system. [P06-5]
2. Use the appropriate teamwork and communication skills necessary to implement a previously defined project plan to meet the desired specifications. [P07-7]
3. Apply sound fundamental problem solving skills to a project that applies the principles of computer integration. [P01-9]
4. Appropriately demonstrate the application of general and technical knowledge learned in prerequisite courses, current technical publications, textbooks and manuals. [P03-4]
5. Demonstrate the ability to apply life long learning skills through the research and application of equipment, software and knowledge that was not a formal part of the CIMT curriculum. [P05- 5]
Note: The course activities of CIMT 480/481 also allow a team of students to plan and complete an industry based integration project in place of the typical Manufacturing Center based project with permission of the CIMT Curriculum Sub-Committee.
