| edit | delete | Unstoppable Learning 4/18/08 - Finally Presented!: Wednesday we gave our Unstoppable Presentation! Literally, unstoppable - even when the projection system blew out and took our game demo with it, we kept right on truckin’. We handed out CD’s, summary pamphlets, and masks of the infamous Professor Ortan! While the Ortan masks were exclusive to the presentation (at least for now), the CD is available for download. The Unstoppable CD contains a mini version of our website, our documentations, samples of our artwork, and a PC version of our game!
We hope you enjoy this Unstoppable production! We also hope to post a video version of our presentation on this very site before long - stay tuned!
A few extra events: the Golden Mustache was awarded to Eric Biddle, for the best use of Prof. Burton Iconography. Travis the Faas hopes to leave the Golden Mustache as a legacy for future 411 groups to aspire to. Alas, the GIANT OCTOPUS was explained during the Q&A of our presentation, and summarily disappeared in a puff of logic.
Major thanks to everyone who turned out for our presentation - and to those watching from home, thanks for your support! Also, extra-big thanks to everyone who made this possible: Tony Holowell, Prof. Maicher, Prof. Harris, Prof. Feezer, Prof. Burton, and his excellent TA’s Helen and Justin! [ Link ] |

| edit | delete | Interpretive Financial Technologies – Still coding... and explanation of how we got where we did - Press Release #6 :: April 11, 2008: The scope of the project, as known for weeks now ever after go no go, still remains changed and plans to remain that way. The story of our semester project has been an interesting one as the semester is drawing near the end. We began the semester on the same ship as the professor, believing all the tools were there for him to do what he needed to keep the boat afloat. We went down the road of planning to integrate all students in the department onto the COGENT management system. Shortly after our Go-No-Go, professor Burton addressed us speaking of troubles on adding groups to the website. That was about the same time we were planning to start the coding for the website. Not long after I was given administrator access to the website and found how to add the groups but realized that there was no ability to edit anything that dealt with stocks for groups or their bank accounts.
That is when the problems snowballed down on us for a few weeks as we tried endlessly to try to get the existing code to compile. After numerous talks with Nathan Corn we were able to get it to compile. The second problem that existed is the website was created in a completely different style then the way we have been taught in CGT 456 ASP.net course. The website is a object oriented beast, but over the past 2.5 weeks we have slowly learned its structure. The third problem that forced us to change our objective was that there was no formed structure on being able to edit stock info or bank account info of groups and individuals in the backend. We have been for the last two and half weeks while trying to learn the structure of this website have been adding controls to pages to allow Professor Burton to accomplish what he needs. We realized there are many, many controls to be added for things to run how he wants. This being said we now have three goals: one is to complete the administration system to the fullest that we can complete it, provide video tutorials for future COGENT developers, and third start the initiative of integrating all students of Computer Graphics Technology in regards to research. We felt it was necessary to share our story with the rest of you all to let you know where we been and where we are.
This being the final week before the final presentation we feel confident we will have most if not all the controls added to the administration back-end. If we were to not complete all of what we wished we would work on this project past the point of final presentation to complete it. We can’t wait to show what we have done so far on our product this upcoming Monday! [ Link ] |

| edit | delete | [BIM]ology HBA Presentation, Data Collected and Analyzed: This week was huge for the [BIM]ology group. On Thursday night, April 10, our group presented information about BIM to the HBAHC, Home Builders Association of Howard County, in Kokomo, IN. After our presentation we had the members fill out our survey. The presentation went very well and collected a lot of good data. On Friday, April 11, our group was able to meet with a stat consultant about our data. We were able to do ALL of our statistical analysis with the consultant while there and are currently compiling the analysis materials for the final presentation.
This week our group had a grade-as-of-now on the paper portion, ‘B-‘ which was in the top five for the papers in class. We were also able to talk with Helen about what needed to be finalized for our final revision and our currently working on that. We have also been preparing our final presentation materials for Tuesday April 15 at 4pm. We already have a practice presentation time on Monday night set up. Also we have prepared an updated poster from the poster competition to display in the hallway for our presentation date. We have a big couple of days in front of us, but are looking forward to presenting our findings of the survey to the class and other members present on Tuesday. [ Link ] |

After a week of analyzing data, editing and reediting our paper, much has been completed. We are in the final stages of finishing our presentation and will begin practicing it Sunday, with reviews on our presentation from our sponsor coming early next week. We had our paper reviewed and have received much good feedback that we have incorporated into the paper. The data analysis was interesting at first, but after consulting with Justin and a stat consultant, we have a much better grasp of our results. The stock has increased continuously, as we have rose from 18th to 5th and we are looking for our presentation to improve us even more. [ Link ] |

| edit | delete | IFT – Interpretive Financial Technologies – CODE Crunching continues – Press Release #5 - 04/4/2008: Interpretive Financial Technologies progress during the week can be marked as significant, but realizes much more tasks are to be accomplished.
The week started off with the poster symposium, which went very well for our group based on the reactions from judges. During the duration of the event, we had each of our members there from the start to the end. Many of the judges that approached our group brought us many compliments, as well as questions. It was the questions that had us most interested because in the end of the event we realized we need to redesign the way we present our objective in this project.
The progression of our products is clutched forward at full speed as our group is able, for the first week, to put some grind hours into coding. We are currently in developing stages of producing administration controls that will allow professor Burton to update any stock information that he desires. We have completed a group search .ascx file which will allow us to easily plug this component into any page we desire to have a group search. We feel this functionality will play an important role when we integrate project search in the future. We are also working on current usability issues that exist in the system, most importantly the color of links in certain areas of the website. Our group has also started to create a digital video library for future developers on the COGENT Management system. We have created two new videos this week that we believe will help get new developers ready to start working with the COGENT system. We plan to produce two to four more videos before our final presentation.
The videos can currently be found at: http://cgtmm1.tech.purdue.edu/411/cogent/COGENT_Videos/
Next week survey testing will, if all goes well, begin and more coding! We know we can’t wait to share all the changes we will have made with you all! [ Link ] |

| edit | delete | Hapticality at the Undergraduate Research Poster Symposium: April 4, 2008 – West Lafayette, IN – WOW, what a week! The task of cramming all of our important and very relevant information onto our poster was a major chore. But our presentation at the Undergraduate Research Poster Symposium was a great success. While we did not win any rewards like Digital Sublimation and S.M.Art (congratulations!!!), we did learn a lot of how receptive people are to our study. We also came away from the poster session with some contact information of some professors in the College of Engineering that are interested in the results of our study. This gave us the realization that our project is so much more than what our study has portrayed it to be so far. It can be applied to various subjects, administered to multiple disciplines, and can be relevant to so many people. We have taken this new found knowledge and have finished the entire rough draft of our final paper and are continuing to edit and improve it. [ Link ] |

The summary of events that occurred during the week has left us with one feeling, “looking forward to the future”. After many talks with previous developer, Nathan Corn, we have reached the point that we are ready to finally add additions onto the site. The new live site for the COGENT Management system has been moved over to http://cgtmm1.tech.purdue.edu/411/cogent/ . There were a few little bugs and large stumbling blocks to get over in order to build a stable build of the website. The work from here on out will be creative additions to the website which to our team is a lot more appealing then the work we have had to deal with as of late. In other news, our research paper has been turned in for revision and our poster is ready to be printed this Saturday. We have also set up a time to meet with our stat consultant come next Tuesday and our research methodology is the current process of being approved. Next week will be a fun week with lots of changes expected for the COGENT system most seen by administrative staff then the average user. [ Link ] |

Our focus will now be to test the difference in static and dynamic imagery and how it affects informing construction professionals about BIM and their attitude towards it. The third major milestone was to gain the results of our Burton Morgan competition – we are now one of the five finalists and will be presenting on April 8th for a chance to win $15,000 and expert advice and consoling. | edit | delete | Hapticality - Still Truckin' (3/28/08): It has been a busy week, we finished our poster, and have completed a very nice element for our final presentation, which we are looking forward to reveal. We have made some suggested revisions to our paper and continue to blend our collective ideas and input that we recieve daily from our many fans and supporters.
On another note, Nate's appendix decided to fight back 5 weeks after his surgery. Upon removal, the Great Appendix left behind some hitmen to snipe away at the lower intestine (sort of like a vendetta and payback for extraction after 21 years of servitude). Don't worry, Nate is doing alright though, thanks to the help of some nice narcotic and antibiotics prescriptions. [ Link ] |
