Introduction to
Virtual Environments

Description: This
course covers basic concepts in virtual reality (VR) and virtual environments (VEs). Students learn the basics of creating and using
virtual environments and develop content and applications for Purdue’s FLEX,
located in the Envision Center, and
other types of displays. The course is
taught in collaboration with Indiana University and Iowa State University with most
sessions taking place via the Access Grid.
Meeting
time and location: Tuesday and Thursday 1:30-3:30 (includes
both lecture and lab time), Access Grid room of the Envision Center (Stew
B001, formerly the billiards room)
Prerequisites: Solid understanding of computer graphics. Although not
required, 3D modeling experience, programming experience in a language such as
C/C++, and/or development experience with graphics tools such as OpenGL,
Inventor, or VRML would be helpful. Students without this experience should
meet with the local instructor prior to enrolling. Class is open to
undergraduates on a case-by-case basis; please contact the instructor for more
information.
