SIGGRAPH 2006 - Once again, Purdue had a strong showing at the annual ACM SIGGRAPH conference, which was held in Boston in it's 33rd year. The world's largest conference for computer graphics, the event was highlighted by nearly 20,000 attendees, representatives from 80 countries, and 230 companies and industry partners.

Congratulations to Associate Professor John Finnegan for chairing a very successful ACM SIGGRAPH conference in Boston, Massachussetts.

CGT Summer Camp

2006 represented the 8th year of the Annual Computer Graphics Summer Camp, which ran from June 18th-23rd. As in previous years, the Department of Computer Graphics at Purdue University invited students from selected high schools throughout the United States to participate in this annual event.

All students interested in attending hands-on sessions in Computer Animation, 3D Solid and Surface Modeling, WWW Development, Digital Publishing, Interactive Program and Multi-media Design, Computer Game Development, Technical Illustration, and Engineering Graphics were encouraged to apply. The camp on June 13, 2006 attracted 44 campers from all over the nation.

CGT Welcomes New Faculty Members

Chris Rahaim (West Lafayette)

Dr. Rahaim has over 15 years of experience in academia, government, and industry. His experience spans from designing new missile systems to designing cutting edge training devices. He has experience in software engineering, aerodynamic design, modeling and simulation, animation and visual effects, film production, and game design. He has worked for such organizations as Lockheed Martin, NASA, Science Applications International Corporation, and the Navy as a civil servant. He is an experienced educator that wants to take his knowledge and experience and help educate the next generation of animators and game designers. One of his key research interests is in the use of games as a serious training tool. As part of this effort he will employ Delta3D a full-function game engine appropriate for a wide variety of modeling & simulation applications and being developed by a consortium of DOD, University, and Industry partners into his current course curriculum.

Sarah George (Richmond)

Sarah George is a Visiting Professor of Computer Graphics Technology at Purdue University in Richmond , Indiana . She attended Herron School of Art in Indianapolis and received her bachelor's degree from Indiana University East. She received a Master's of Architecture from Miami University in Oxford , Ohio where she focused her studies on sustainable design for developing countries.

Prior to joining Purdue University , George taught Visual Communications at both Miami University and Indiana University . She worked for Lorenz Williams as an architect where she specialized in LEEDS (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) design and education, architectural graphics and construction document management.

In addition to teaching duties at Purdue University , George owns and manages an architectural and graphics business where she concentrates in 3d graphics, technical graphics and marketing presentations.
