Department of Computer Graphics Technology
The Department of Computer Graphics Technology (CGT) expects that all applicants for graduate study within this department will exhibit competency in the following areas as a result of their undergraduate education and experiences:
- Communication
- Visualization
- Creativity
- Technology
As a result of progress through the graduate program in the College of Technology , and specifically the Applied Computer Graphics area of specialization, students will exhibit the following core competencies:
- Ability to develop methods of inquiry related to computer graphics and its applications
- High level application of graphical knowledge and skills
- Demonstration of leadership potential
In addition to the materials required by Purdue University and the College of Technology, each applicant for study in the CGT Department should submit four (4) samples of their best work which demonstrate the aforementioned undergraduate competencies (first list above). These samples of work should also demonstrate the applicant's level of potential ability for demonstrating the graduate competency areas (second list above).
Each applicant to should also send a writing sample (in addition to the statement of purpose requested by the College of Technology) that clearly conveys their ability to communicate in a written form, such as a final term paper, excerpts from an undergraduate or graduate thesis, or a published article for which the applicant is the sole author. Please limit writing samples to five (5) pages or less .
When the CGT departmental graduate committee receives the applicant's samples of work, the application will be considered complete and will be reviewed. Printed or digital
(CD or Zip disk preferred) formats for the samples are acceptable; however, the materials will not be returned to the applicant. The applicant's role in defining and producing each sample item should be clearly stated.

Graduate Admissions Procedures
- Student submits application materials.
- Application materials collected by graduate school and forwarded to COT and department.
- CGT graduate coordinator will collect applications for review.
- CGT graduate coordinator will assemble committee to review applications
- CGT graduate committee members (and other faculty as necessary and appropriate) will complete review forms for each applicant.
- CGT graduate committee will vote on remaining applicants, taking into account additional faculty input as necessary and appropriate.
- CGT graduate coordinator will send committee recommendations to department head and COT Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies for communication to applicants.
- If recommended for admission, the major professor will be assigned at that time by the department head.
