Biography
Marvin I. Sarapin was appointed Professor
and Head of the Department of Computer Graphics Technology
at Purdue University on July 1, 2004 after thirty years
of prior experience in Higher Education. He received
his Ph.D. degree from Iowa State University in 1977
and his M.S. and B.S. degrees from the State University
of New York, College at Buffalo in 1973 and 1970.
Dr. Sarapin came to Purdue from Kean
University in Union, New Jersey were he was extremely
active in technology program development and accreditation
from 1984 to 2004. At Kean, he served as Professor and
Chair of the Department of Technology, was Trustee of
Gamma Beta Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau, was elected EPT
Region 1 Director, and servers on the Honor Society’s
Board of Directors. He has been awarded an Epsilon Pi
Tau Laureate and Distinguished Service Citation. At
Kean, Marvin taught courses such as Computer Aided Design,
Development of Technical Documents, Manufacturing System,
Computer Applications in Education and Technology, and
developed a B.S. Degree Program in Computer Integrated
Design and Manufacturing Technology. Prior to his appointment
at Kean University, Marvin served Purdue University
from 1978 to 1984 when he was an Associate Professor
and Graduate Program Coordinator in the Department of
Industrial Technology.
Marvin was an Assistant Professor
and Director of the Maryland Vocational R&D Center
housed at the University of Maryland, College Park from
1977 to 1978 where he supervised the State Vocational
Curriculum Library and Curriculum Research and Development
Staff. In addition, he had previous experience as an
Instructor in the Department of Industrial Education
and Technology at Iowa State University, Ames from 1973
to 1977.
Dr. Sarapin is a Certified Senior
Industrial Technologist, a National Association of Industrial
Technology Accreditation Team Chair, and member of the
NAIT Board of Accreditation. He has also held leadership
positions in the International Industrial Technology
Education Association and the Council for Technology
Teacher Education and is a past recipient of the ITEA
Outstanding Young Technology Educator Award. He has
served on the Board of Examiners for the National Teacher’s
Examination-PRAXIS and has been a state and national
program reviewer. Marvin has made numerous conference
presentations and has contributed to the literature
in technological education over his career.
Dr. Sarapin has technical education
teaching experience in public school, trade and industrial
education, union, and industrial training in addition
to his years of University teaching and administration.
His professional interests have center in identifying
and monitoring technology student core competencies;
formative and summative evaluation; program assessment
and accreditation; and applications of computers in
technical instruction.
