Final Project Layout of Apartment units guidelines
The final project has a couple of requirements
- First- Define a group with 7 people total-
- You can select people from your own section-- or different sections
- It just makes it easier when your all together in the same section to
get together to chat
- Make sure to get ALL information about these group members so you can
contact them
- Name
- Phone Number
- Email Address
- Class Schedule
- Social Schedule
- EVERYTHING! because when YOU need to find them, myself and the TA's
are NOT going to help.
- This year, you can actually FIRE a person from your group- essentially
they will be on their own or have to find another group
- Talk to another group IF you do fire someone to obtain the remaining
apartment unit!
- Second- Each person is to draw ONE of the 7 apartment units and give it
to the other group members.
- Draw it in AutoCAD first- and then you will create it in Revit by importing the dwg or dxf file
- I would have a system if I were you- line types, layer naming convention,
even color of lines, everything!
- Draw all units the same- different files though
- Start each apartment unit in the SAME location (ie 0,0) This is imparative for Revit that you identify a 0,0,0
- Have all layers the same in each drawing- AutoCAD only!
- Have all colors for objects the same
- Keep all items between drawing files exactly the same- it will
make your life EASIER
- Give your file to the other 4 members and get thier files for your
project
- At this point- it is an INDIVIDUAL PROJECT.
- Third- Obtain the DWG and Revit model from your group members
- Individually Xref the apartment units into a new file- arrange them
according to the floorplan layout on the web
- Here you get to have creativity. Design the landscaping for the apartment
complex
- Include a Parking lot, commons area, walking path, or anything else
you can think of
- Make sure to place ALL units on your flash card, or CD and REFERENCED
into your floor plan layout from the CD or Jump drive.
- The path will be extremely important when we load it and check
your Xref manager.
- Fourth- Draw the front and Side elevation for ONE BUILDING of the complex--
the front and side will be defined on the roof plan
- front will defined on the complex layout, building is 4 stories, 14'-0"
wall heights per floor, 12" floor system
- Be creative here as well-- you can visually add whatever you want to
spruce it up
- Fifth- Create an INDIVIDUAL presentational
document that combines all information for the project- you will be in competition
with your other section, so make the document outstanding.
- What to include in the document- that I cannot tell you. It is up to
you to ask questions and figure out what makes a good presentational document
- The more you put in is not necessarily best. It should be clear and
concise. But also should be noticeable or stand out.
- Color is always good to a point-
- Creating an imaginary company to submit a bid is a good idea too
- Coming up with a company description
- overall project overview- what is the problem
- what is your solution?
- just a few hints!

for Sample Final Project Evaluation
Use sample eval as
guide only-- Some students will go above and beyond
these guidelines. And since you are graded on best in your lab-- it is a competition to get the "almighty A" or in the real world- the contract to build the structure.
The more you do and do well- the better your grade!
