Building Construction Management students utilize
a variety of laboratory facilities to simulate a real-world working
environment and they are exposed to environments that simulate a true working environment. BCM facilities include the:
Bidding and Estimating Laboratory
The Bidding and Estimating Labs in KNOY contain computerized
work stations. They are primarily used for construction in
estimating and scheduling as they provide ample space for contract documents
and computer hardware.
Both the Project Management Lab and the Bidding and Estimating Lab are
adjacent facilities joined by a small office staffed by a student employee,
allowing the department to operate the labs from 8:00am until 10:00pm,
thereby providing general computer access to all outside scheduled class
hours.
This area is a large two-story facility with an overhead
crane. Each semester a wood-frame, steel-frame, and concrete structure are
erected by the students. Such hands-on projects provide the opportunity for
junior-level students to supervise the freshmen-level students in their
construction tasks, while also maintaining safety, efficiency, accuracy, and
timely production.
Field Engineering Laboratory
 |
The department's Field Engineering Lab represents today's field engineering office.
There are 8 work stations networked to printers and plotters and utilize surveying software. Each workstation seats 3 students.
Carpeting was installed throughout the lab to support the setup of surveying tripods during coursework.
The work stations are accomplished through donations by company sponsorship. Sponsors also assist with updates in technology.

Field Office
The development of the Field Office in the large D. Dorsey Moss Construction Lab is
funded by Gaylor Electric, and includes a computer that is connected to the Internet which can be used to research information related to supervision activities and safety presentations.
The Field Office also has a safety resource center that includes safety equipment and video tapes needed to conduct jobsite safety training.

Electronic communication between the Field Office and the Project Management Office Lab on the fourth floor of Knoy Hall is currently being accomplished by the use of the network.

Project Management Office Laboratory
The Project Management Office Lab in KNOY is equipped with computers and digitizing boards. The lab also serves a variety of other courses where access to specialized computer software is required.
Both the Project Management Office Lab and the Bidding & Estimating Lab are adjacent facilities joined by a small office staffed by a student employee. This allows the department to operate both labs from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. and to provide general computer access to all BCM students outside the scheduled class hours.
