Aviation Management (B.S.) Plan of Study

Credit Hours Required for Bachelor's Degree: 128

The aviation management program is designed for students who are seeking careers in airline management, airport management, or air traffic control. Students in this curriculum study aircraft systems, principles of flight, and basic aircraft science. They also take courses in air traffic control, aviation law, airport management, and air transportation, in addition to a number of general education courses.

Graduates of the first two years of the aviation management program receive an Associate of Science degree and are qualified to assist in the operation of airlines, airports, and airport service industries.Ê The plan of study below is current for students entering AM in August 2003 or later.Ê Others should see their academic advisors for details.

Upon completion of the first two years of this program, an Associate of Science degree in aviation management is awarded. APPROVED AVIATION TECHNOLOGY SELECTIVE COURSE AREAS

All B.S. degree students must choose one of three available Aviation Management focus areas, and AT Selective courses (15 credit hours minimum) must come from the focus area selected. Capstone course selection (Sem 8) is based on focus area selection. Students in the Airline Management focus area must take AT 438. Students in the Airport Management focus area must take AT 459. Students in the Air Traffic Control focus area must take AT 479.

AVIATION MANAGEMENT GLOBALIZATION REQUIREMENT

Due to the international nature of the aviation industry, all Aviation Management B.S. degree students must complete a globalization requirement using any ONE of the following six methods:

  1. Complete a study abroad term
  2. Complete an internship outside the U.S.
  3. Complete an AT-sponsored study trip (AT 452 & 453)
  4. Provide documentation of having lived/traveled outside the U.S. for at least 90 days after a student's 12th birthday (does not have to be consecutive)
  5. Complete one of the following courses: COM 224, 303, 424; ECON 368, 370; HTM 372
  6. Complete 12 credit hrs in one foreign language
