The Department of Computer Graphics Technology
(CGT) is accepting applications for a
faculty position with an emphasis in scientific visualization
and virtual reality. This position
requires teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in computer
graphics and specifically
providing leadership and coordination of activities in identifying
curricular content for the
development of courses in scientific visualization and virtual
reality.
A doctorate degree specializing in computer
graphics or a closely related field is required.
Industrial/teaching experience in computer graphics and virtual
reality or related areas is preferred;
and a background in applied aspects of scientific visualization,
is required. The ability
to keep current with the needs of research laboratories; participate
in academic conferences;
publish in scholarly journals; develop and maintain a modern
computer graphics teaching laboratory;
work closely with the Envision Center for Data Perceptualization;
seek external support
to fund applied research projects; and achieve strong, positive
teaching evaluations is required
for promotion and tenure. Salary will be commensurate with
qualifications and background.
THE DEPARTMENT AND THE SCHOOL
The Department of Computer Graphics Technology, with 20 full-time
faculty members, is one
of eight departments in the School of Technology. The department
offers the bachelor’s degree
(B.S.) and a Master of Science (M.S.) and serves approximately
500 students on the West
Lafayette campus and 200 students at locations throughout
Indiana. The curriculum allows
students to specialize in several areas, including interactive
multimedia development, computer
animation, construction graphics communications, and computer-aided

Scientific visualization is being added to
the curriculum through the collaboration with the Envision
Center for Data Perceptualization

A Ph.D. in Technology is also offered by the School. Located
in West Lafayette, Indiana, Purdue University has an enrollment
of about 38,000. The
School of Technology is the third largest school with an enrollment
of more than 4000 students.
