CGT 512: Human Factors of Computer Interface Design

Part 1: Write a brief 1-2 page analysis of the Facebook and MySpace interfaces. Critically examine them them from a standpoint of social networking aspects that can be used for education. Be prepared to discuss these items in class.

Of the three interfaces, which is easiest to use (both in setting up "accounts" and communicating with others who use the application?)
How well doeseach application lend itself to being used as an effective educational tool?
What are the positive and negative aspects of each interface?
What could be done to each application interface to make it a better tool for educators and students alike? New features? Removal of distracting elements?
Briefly outline a possible assessment test that could be used to determine the effectiveness of each application for educational communication.

Part 2: Find an article/ paper on some aspect of human factors that is a) interesting to you and b) applicable to your research/ what you do. Be prepared to give a general summation of the main points of the paper and discuss them in class.
