Placement Procedures
Collecting Resumes
- CGT Academic Counselor prepares list of AS and BS graduates and submits list to Department Head and the Director of Placement.
- Graduate student committee chair prepares list of MS graduates and submits to Department Head and Director of Placement.
- Director of Placement requests resumes from all graduating students by September 15 in the fall and January 30 in the spring. Graduates are encouraged to submit multiple resumes to describe interest in more than one area in graphics.
- Resumes are reviewed by the Director or Placement and returned to students if necessary for editing.
- Graduates are encouraged to register with the Center for Career Opportunities (CCO) by the 4th week of the semester they plan on graduating.
Procedures for Posting Jobs
- Job placement inquiries received by faculty and staff are to be turned over to the Director of Placement within 24 hours.
- Employer is contacted again by the Director of Placement, if necessary, to get a job description suitable for posting.
- Job descriptions for BS degree candidates are dated and posted on the Placement Job Board located near the CGT office and sent to the student listserve.
- Students interested in a job posting can submit their resume to the Director of Placement or mail the resume directly to the employer.
- Job postings are removed after two weeks by the Director of Placement and filed.
- Information about the prospective employer is added or updated in the Employer Database.
- After a job is removed from the Placement Job Board, the Director of Placement will contact the prospective employer to arrange interviews or to send resumes for review.
Procedures for Prospective Employers Wanting to Review Resumes Without a Job Posting
- Requests for reviewing resumes received by faculty and staff are to be turned over to the Director of Placement within 24 hours.
- The Director of Placement contacts prospective employer again, if necessary, to determine general background of graduates wanted for review.
- Director of Placement mails, faxes, or emails the resumes.
- Information about the prospective employer is added or updated to the Employer Database.
- The prospective employer is contacted within 10 days of sending the resumes to offer assistance, i.e. arrange interviews, send more resumes.
Procedures for Arranging On-Campus Interviews
- If a prospective employer requests on campus interviews, the Director of Placement posts an interview sign-up sheet with posting and removal date, and job description.
- The interview schedule is sent to the prospective employer.
- Arrangements are made for the visit providing assistance in getting to campus, room arrangements, parking pass, map of campus, meeting with faculty/department head, lunch, etc.
- On the day of the interview, the Director of Placement greets the prospective employer and escorts her/him to the interview room.
Inquiries by Students for Information from the Department's Employer Database
- The Director of Placement will query the database for information students request on companies.
Maintaining the Employers Database
- The Director of Placement and Secretaries are responsible for maintaining and upgrading the Employers Database.
Collecting Placement Data
- At the end of each semester a summary of all Employers Surveys will be compiled and given to the Department Head to share with the faculty.
- The Director of Placement will contact all graduates who have not returned a survey every 6 weeks after graduation to determine employment status.
- The Director of Placement will compile data from all graduates in an academic year and prepare the final report to be submitted to School's Director of Academic Counseling and the Department Head.
Student Instructions for Using the Department of Computer Graphics Placement Services
The Department works very hard in assisting graduating students in finding employment.
The Department has been very successful in finding graduates well paying jobs with an average placement rate of over 95% for the last 4 years.
In order for us to assist you in finding employment you must follow the procedures outlined below.
If you follow the procedures we are confident that you will find a job soon after graduating.
- A one-page resume must be turned in to the Director of Placement.
- Any recommended changes to your resume must be completed by the end of the 5th week of classes.
- A resume must be turned into CCO using their standard criteria by the end of the 3rd week of classes in the semester you plan on graduating.
- Check the Placement Job Board outside of the CGT main office every day to review new job postings.
- If you find a job posting you are interested in being considered for, give the Director of Placement your resume so it can be sent to the prospective employer for their review or forward it directly to the employer if specified. You will be contacted by the Department or the prospective employer to make arrangements for interviewing if you are one of the final candidates.
- The first time you miss a scheduled interview time arranged by CGT or CCO you will be placed on probation. The second time you miss a scheduled interview time you will lose all placement assistance.
- As soon as you accept a job you must return the Placement Information Survey to the CGT Department using the self-addressed stamped envelope.
- If you are the only CGT graduate being interviewed for a job and you refuse the offer please contact the Department so we can recommend another CGT graduate to the prospective employer.
After your 6th month on the job please return the Graduate Follow-up Survey using the self-addressed stamped envelope.
